| Abstract: | The article analyzes the content of the latest edition of the research journal «Green book» biennially published by the General Headquarters of the Pakistan Army. The journal consists of 16 articles written by various serving or retired officers, scholars and journalists on assessing Pakistan’s current security environment. The analysis mainly focuses on the context of mentioning the Indian factor and the perceived threats for Pakistan coming from India. The Indian-Pakistani conflict, which became chronic, is being transformed by new factors. Thus, after the successful nuclear weapons tests by India and Pakistan in 1998, the threat of conventional full-scale war between the two countries has decreased, minimizing the space for India to use its superior conventional asymmetry against Pakistan and giving way to new challenges to the national security of Pakistan, the main features of which are classified as «hybrid war». Indian manifestations of hybrid war include coercive diplomacy, anti-Pakistan propaganda, support for non-governmental organizations within Pakistan such as Baloch militant organizations, cyber war and other measures aimed at destroying the credibility of the Pakistan armed forces, the government, its economy, etc. The majority of all articles covering the so-called India threat are devoted to nuclear deterrence (75%) followed by Kashmir (67%) and hybrid war (57%). Indian «Cold start strategy» took 33% share while articles related to Baloch separatism made up the remaining 31% of the content.Among all mentioned threats conventional one is discussed only within the context of the «Cold start strategy»; other topics mainly cover the non-conventional ones. |
