   At present, Russian politics are increasingly paying attention to interaction with Asian countries. It seems important to establish friendly relations among the youth of Russia and Afghanistan. To achieve the goals, the soft power methodology should be applied. With this attitude, the first ever Russia-Afghanistan international forum – AFRUS-2019 - was developed and held, which received support from government agencies such as the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the Russian Foreign Ministry, and Gorchakov Russian Public Diplomacy Support Fund.

   The article discusses the goals, objectives and main results of the Forum. The author proceeds from the actual problems existing in the modern youth society of Afghanistan and an understanding of promising areas for cooperation. The article actualizes issues of the image of countries, language policy, the interaction of youth in the field of media, as well as options for academic exchange. The article describes the goals, objectives, subjects and problems of the Forum.

   The choice of forms of work is substantiated and the target planning of all aspects of the program is described. When developing an event of this format, involving the youth elite and reputable expert participants, it is necessary to take into account many aspects, including the function of the event, location, duration, staffing and material support, image aspect, linguistic and psychological characteristics of the mentality of participants. Attention is drawn to the importance of stratification of participants and experts, as well as the peculiarity of preventive diplomacy in the format of the Forum.
